Gerard Hegarty is an Impressionist painter working from his studio in County Dublin. He studied Art at NCAD and subsequently with renowned artists including Arthur Maderson and Desmond Carrick.
Hegarty is influenced by French Impressionist Pissarro, Renoir and Monet alongside contemporary artists Edward Seago and Arthur Maderson. Gerard is an active member of the Plein Air Dublin group and regularly paints outdoors, where he captures the light and colour of the moment in true impressionist style.
Gerard has also exhibited in Kilkenny and Carlow Arts Festival since 2010. He has also enjoyed showing in group and solo exhibitions throughout his career. Gerard’s paintings are in many collections in Ireland and further afield. He is proud that they are in eminent collections such as that of Matthew McConnaghy and The American Embassy.
Gerard would describe his paintings as an exploration in colour and light. Employing tempera pure colour and mixing oils ensures that his paintings are vibrant and capture the moment with energy and joie de vivre.
