Let Yoursef Flow - Oil on Canvas
Clare Hartigan has been involved in creative activity since she was a
child growing up in Castleconnell, County Limerick. She studied
printmaking at the Limerick School of Art and Design and then moved to
Cork where she started painting. After a few years, Clare returned to
her home village where she now works full-time as an artist.
Hartigan came from a traditional background of painting having exhibited
and sold work from the age of 14. Through college she had the opportunity
to explore more contemporary ideas. Since then Hartigan has been combining the
traditional painting methods with contemporary ideas.
In her latest series, Hartigan explores the whimsical technique of paint dripping. Her canvases are
ignited with excited animation and emotional intensity as delicate bands of
color dance across a white, monochromatic backdrop. Combining Jackson Pollock's
improvisational dynamism with her interest in the human form, Hartigan's work is
refreshingly unique and distinct from any of her Irish contemporaries.
